2 houses burnt to ashes at Faridganj

Two houses were burnt to ashes in a terrible fire in Chandpur districts Faridganj Upazila. About 10 people were injured while trying to put out the fire. The two families claim that about 10 lakh taka have been lost due to this.

At around 8 pm on Monday, January 31, the house of Hasan Ali, son of late Sarafat Ali and the house of Tajul Islam, son of late Abdur Rashid were burnt to ashes. Both of these houses were made of tinshed, so they quickly caught fire.

It is learned that the locals were able to put out the fire before Chandpur Fire Service Station rushed to the spot after hearing the news of the fire.

Eyewitness Amena Begum, wife of Abul Kalam of the same house told the Chandpur Times that when she first saw fire on the west side of Hasan Ali’s house at about 8 o’clock in the night, she shouted for help and people of the house came and tried to extinguish the fire.

Several people including Sajib, Abdur Razzak, and Farvez were seriously injured while trying to put out the fire.

At that time the locals rescued them and took them to Faridganj Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

Hasan Ali, the owner of the burnt house, told the Chandpur Times, “We are two brothers, my father died 6 months ago, then we borrowed and repaired the dilapidated house.”

At that time he cried and said, “My younger brother Mamun Ar-Rashid and I work in a garment factory in Dhaka. My mother is sick so I brought her to us last December.”

Asked how much money was lost, he said, “My parents and I built this house, what was wrong with us, what can I say, brother, we have lost about 6 to 7 lakh taka.”

Tajul Islam, an owner of another house that caught fire, told the Chandpur Times that he and his wife worked in a shop in New Market, Dhaka, and his wife, Fatema Begum, was locked up the house. Asked how much money was lost, he said about 3 to 4 lakh taka had been lost.
