17 fishermen rescued from wrecked boat in Bay of Bengal

The Bangladesh Navy has rescued 17 fishermen alive from a fishing boat with an engine failure in the Bay of Bengal, 80 km from Cox’s Bazar. They were floating in the sea for six days.

The rescued fishermen were handed over to the boat owner in Kutubdia at 3 pm on Friday, November 12, the navy said.

The rescued fishermen are Mubarak Ali, Abu Saeed, Ismail, Rabiul Hannan, Mohammadullah, Rabiul Hossain, Rezaur Karim, Md. Ayes, Nurul Alam, Nurul Azgar, Md. Hannan, A. Khaleq, Adam Badshah, Mobinul Islam, Md. Mamun, Md. Zakir and Nurul Mostafa.

They are all residents of the Kutubdia area.

According to naval sources, on November 5, a fishing boat named ‘Khwaja Ajmir’ with 17 fishermen went to sea for fishing. At one stage the engine of the boat broke down.

Then floating in the sea for the last six days. The navy ship ‘Anusandhan’, which was on patrol, later rescued the fishermen in the boat at noon on Thursday, November 11. The ship’s crew provided first aid and necessary food and water to the rescued fishermen in an emergency.
