Farmers Benefited From Cultivating Cucumber

Seasonal vegetables are cultivated every year in two irrigation projects in Chandpur district. This time the cyclone has caused some damage due to bad weather, but in the district,Cucumber is cultivated on 485 hectares of land.

The production target is 9988 hectares. Chandpur Sadar upazila has been cultivated most of them. Farmers are becoming interested in cultivating legumes due to no cost other than seeds and care due to polymati on the irrigation project. Even at the last moment of the season, they have been very profitable this year by selling Cucumber.

Chandpur District Agriculture Extension Department said , ‘The target of cultivating Cucumber was 485 hectares in the district this time. Out of these, 140 hectares have been cultivated in the district headquarters, 120 hectares in Matlab North Upazila and 80 hectares in Hajiganj upazila. In other upazilas, 10-20 hectares of land has been cultivated.

Ashikati, Shahmahmoodpur, Baghadi, Baliya, Ibrahimpur, Lakshmipur, Hanarchar, Rajarajeshwar Union have been cultivated Cucumber .In the meantime, the farmers in the coastal area of ​​the Meghna river are in a very profitable state by planting lettuce in advance. In the meantime, farmers of Ashikati , Shahmahmoodpur and Baghdi unions of Sadar upazila have sold their Cucumber to the market several times.

Farmers have taken up this year’s crop in Shatnal, Gajra Union of North upazila. Every year they cultivate the Cucumber in advance and send to different districts including Dhaka. Farmers in the district cultivate Cucumber multiple times on each land.

Zakir, a farmer in Gajra area of ​​Matlab North Upazila, said this time we have cultivated Cucumber on 40 percent of the land. The groth has been a bit delayed due to some damage in the cyclone.

Nurjahan Begum, a farmer in the same area, said I have been cultivating cucumbers in the land for about 15 years. This time around we have planted Cucumber in about one hectare of land. Everyone in the family serves on the land. So our costs have been underrated.

She is optimistic that this years profit will be at least 40-50 thousand taka.At the beginning of the season cucumber sold at a rate of 40-60 taka as per Kg.

Bilal Ghazi, a farmer in the Nizgachtala area of ​​the Baghadi union of Chandpur Sadar Upazila said, “We cultivate not only cucumber but corn and sugarcane on the same land.” However, many people in the area have started planting due to the fact that the kiwis are producing good produce in a very short time. This year has been a good outing. I got a good price. Initially, it was sold at taka 50-60 kg. Now the last time the cucumbers are smaller in size, so the prices are a little lower.

Yusuf Ghazi, a farmer from Lakshmipur village in Sadar, said, “This year I cultivated kheeras and vegetables on 30 percent of the land. Vegetables are good The yield has come too late because of a little late planting. Last year, the kisi cultivated a profit of Tk 20,000. This year, if the cucumbers are large, I will sell them in different sizes. He hopes this year’s cucumbers will benefit by selling.

Abdul Mannan, Assistant Agriculture Officer of the Chandpur District Agricultural Extension Department, said that khee cultivation has been very popular with the farmers in Chandpur for the last 20 years. The target of production per hectare this year is 18.60 metric tons. The production target of the whole district is 9988 thousand metric tons.
