Fishing cat found in Chandpur

In Chandpur, a group of teenagers found a Fishing cat thinking it was a cat. In Chandpur Sadar Upazila’s 10 no. Laxmipur Model Union, teenagers have caught a fishing tiger thinking it is a cat. On Thursday, June 24 in the afternoon, the Fishing cat was seized from Kairbil in Ramdasadi village in Ward no. 7 of the union. The local businessman Mozammel Gazi said, with the help of teenagers, captured the Fishing cat wiped out from a hole and locked it in an iron cage.

Meanwhile, the Chandpur forest department rescued the fish tiger at night and took it away. Hundreds of curious people gathered at Mozammel Gazi’s house to catch a glimpse of the fish.

Local businessman Mozammel Gazi said the little boys and girls in the area first thought that it was a cat but it was a Fishing cat. They were making a fuss about it. Then I heard their noise and went there and saw the Fishing cat hiding in a hole.

Later I took them and locked the Fishing cat in a cage. The fishing tiger was very weak and could not move properly. After buying 2 chickens and feeding, it starts moving. Later I informed the Chandpur forest department. Later on Thursday night, the people of the forest department came and rescued the captured fishing tiger.

Forest Department staff Shafiqul Islam told the ‘Chandpur Times’ that locals had once caught Fishing cat from the union before. The Fishing cat is very weak. It needs treatment.
