Hilsa catch is prohibited for 22 days from 14th October to 4th November

Hilsa catch is prohibited for 22 days from 14th October to 4th November.The government has announced a 22-day hilsa breeding season from October 14 to November 4th, the main breeding season for hilsa this year. During this period, catching, extracting, selling and marketing of hilsa will be stopped.

During the breeding season of Hilsa, 10,566 MT of VGF rice has been allocated for fishermen in the current financial year under the government’s humanitarian food aid program.

This information has been given in a press release of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock on Friday 02 October.

It also said that under this assistance program, the allocation has been given to 5 lakh and 28 thousand 342 fisher families in 152 upazilas of 36 districts at the rate of 20 kg before the start of the main breeding season for hilsa. This food aid is being provided to an additional 1 lakh and 20 thousand 263 fisher families as compared to last season.

The 36 districts allotted are Dhaka, Manikganj, Munshiganj, Faridpur, Rajbari, Narsingdi, Shariatpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Tangail, Kishoreganj, Narayanganj, Jamalpur, Chattogram, Feni, Brahmanbaria, Noakhali, Laxmipur. Chandpur, Cox’s Bazar, Khulna, Bagerhat, Kushtia, Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Natore, Sirajganj, Pabna, Gaibandha, Kurigram, Barisal, Pirojpur, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barguna and Jhalokati.

According to the Protection and Conservation of Fish Rules, 1985, enacted under the Protection and Conservation of Fish Act, 1950 for the conservation of hilsa resources, the main breeding season of hilsa this year is from October 14 to November 4th for 22 days. The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has already issued a notification banning marketing, buying and selling and exchange.
