On behalf of President & Prime Minister wreath laid at National Memorial

On the occasion of the Great Victory Day, on behalf of President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the military secretaries laid wreaths at the National Memorial in Savar and paid their respects to the martyrs.

As soon as the sun rose on Wednesday, the first tribute was paid on behalf of the President. Later, tributes were paid on behalf of the Prime Minister. At this time a sad tune was played. A smart contingent of the armed forces provided the Guard of Honor in honor of the martyrs.

Three levels of security have been put in place at the National Memorial. Hundreds of military and civilian security personnel have been deployed at the memorial premises.

Today, December 16, is the 49th anniversary of the victory. Today is an unforgettable day for the thousand years of valor and heroism of the Bengali nation. The day of announcing the name of an independent territory called Bangladesh on the map of the world with its debut as a nation of heroes.

On this day in 1971, the Bengali nation broke the shackles of subjugation and tasted its first independence. Breaking the chain of twenty-four years, a new sunrise appeared in the destiny of the nation. The redness of the morning sun spread from one end of Bangladesh to the other.

In order to celebrate the great Victory Day-2020 with due dignity, various programs have been taken at the national level in compliance with the health rules. However, due to the outbreak of Covid-19, Victory Day parade is not being held this year.

On the occasion of Victory Day, the program of the day started with 31 rounds of artillery fire at the National Parade Ground in Dhaka this morning. After laying a wreath at the Savar National Memorial on behalf of President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Bir Shrestha family, war-wounded freedom fighters and heroic freedom fighters led by the Liberation War Affairs Minister laid wreaths.

The day is a public holiday. The national flag has been hoisted at sunrise in all government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings and important buildings and installations will be illuminated. The main roads and road islands of Dhaka and other cities of the country have been decorated with national flags.

The President and the Prime Minister delivered speeches on the occasion of the day. Newspapers have published special supplements highlighting the significance of the day. Besides, electronic media is broadcasting various programs based on the liberation war.
