President Abdul Hamid said ,’Police need to act as friends of the people’.President Md. Abdul Hamid has said that the police will have to work as a friend of the people to continue the progress of democracy as well as uphold the fundamental rights and human rights of the people.
He said, “Bangladesh is on the path of development, progress and equality based society today. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is expected to play an effective role in accelerating this pace of development.
President said this in a statement on the occasion of the DMP’s 45th founding day.
On the occasion of the President’s inauguration day, all the members of the DMP extended their warm wishes and congratulations.
He said, ‘On March 25,1971 the members of Bangladesh Police formed the first armed resistance at the Rajarbagh Police Lines against the Pakistani invaders . Many heroic policemen have died while performing their duties in the security and order of the country at different times including the Great War. I remember with great respect the policemen who sacrificed their lives in the liberation war and the law and order of the country at different times’.
The President said that the largest unit of Bangladesh Police is Dhaka Metropolitan Police. Since its inception, members of this unit have been playing a vital role in establishing the rule of law and protecting the lives of the people. Members of the DMP are ensuring the safety of the townspeople by combining professionalism, skills and modern technology. In recent times, DMP has played a commendable role in providing security on various national and international occasions, including controlling terrorism and terrorism, maintaining law and order of the city, maintaining traffic discipline, implementing women and child-friendly policing. He said the Dhaka Metropolitan Police will continue its continuous efforts to provide the expected service to the capitalist people in future.
