Special monitoring team to control rice prices.The government has set up a special monitoring team to control the price of rice. The Ministry of Food has taken steps to prevent anyone from raising rice through trade. At the same time the control room has been set up. Government measures to keep rice prices tolerable

The Food Ministry has taken initiatives under the direction of Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumdar.

The food minister said, ‘Rice prices have to be adjusted with rice prices. In no case do the mill owners and traders take advantage of the excess. On the one hand, farmers have to make sure that they get a fair price, on the other hand consumers can buy rice at affordable price’.

The minister also directed strict measures to be taken against anyone trying to destabilize the rice market.

Shamim Hasan, deputy secretary of the food ministry and Sarwar Mahmood, director general of the food department, said the two office orders signed were to form a market monitoring team.

A total of five market monitoring teams have been set up under the Ministry of Food and the Department of Food in order to prevent the trend of fluctuations in the prices of foodgrains, to assist the low income people and to keep the market stable, to ensure fair value to the farmers.

To monitor the upward trend in rice market rates, a monitoring committee has been set up under the Ministry of Food and 1 under the Food Department to monitor the large wholesale market in Dhaka city.

The committees have been directed to collect market rates and submit reports to the Food Ministry and the Food Department.

The committee’s working conditions include monitoring and submitting market report by monitoring the wholesale market of Dhaka metropolitan area, collecting market rates and previous two-day market rates for market inspection and collecting information on sale price and purchase price of rice and flour. Committees in charge of market monitoring will conduct daily market monitoring.

The committee under the Ministry of Food is headed by Joint Secretary Mosammat Kamar Jahan, Committee-2 is headed by Deputy Secretary Rayana Ahmed, Committee-1 is headed by Deputy Secretary Shamim Hassan and Committee is constituted under the Assistant Secretary of Food Ministry Mosmat Tahmina Khanam. Committee-1 is headed by the Food Department, Reza Mohammad Mohsin, Additional Director of the Department of Food, Senior Instructor Nakib Said Saiful Islam, and Committee-1 is headed by Additional Director Amjad Hossain.

Each committee has two members. Each committee has been asked to submit a material report to the Ministry of Food and the Department of Food for regular monitoring of the market till further instructions.
