Termination of the Afghan War through the historic peace treaty.Washington has finally reached a historic peace deal with the militant Taliban at the end of the United States’ long Afghan war. The Taliban and US peace agreements were signed in the presence of representatives of countries and organizations around the world in Doha, Qatar’s capital on Saturday.
Note that after the withdrawal of the Soviet army in 1989, the civil war in Afghanistan began. The mujahideen invaded the PDPA government. Finally, the government collapsed in 1992, but the civil war did not end because of the internal riots within the Mujahideen. A group of Mujahideen formed an Islamic fundamentalist group called the Taliban. Their governance was criticized as a brutal and barbaric regime. On November 2001, the US and the United Kingdom, with the support of the United States, fell to the Taliban.
After the fall of the Taliban, the United Nations encouraged the establishment of multi-ethnic government in the country. An interim government was formed in Afghanistan on December 2001 following a conference in the German city of Bonn. Six months later, an intermediate government was formed which passed a new constitution in the 2004. Under the new constitution, the president-based government was established in Afghanistan, and in the October 2004 election, the elected president took power in Afghanistan’s first direct vote.
The British messenger Reuters says the deal will result in the United States withdrawing troops deployed in Afghanistan. However, many have expressed skepticism over whether the deal will last long due to the complexity of the deal.
A few hours before the signing of the agreement, the Taliban have ordered all fighters to refrain from carrying out any kind of attack on Afghanistan for the welfare of the nation. The spokesman for the group, Zabiullah Mujahid, said, “We expect that the United States will remain firmly committed to their commitment during the peace agreement and negotiations.”
On the occasion of the signing of the agreement, a delegation of 31 members of the group led by Mullah Abdul Ghoni Baradar, head of the Taliban’s political branch, was present in Qatar. Senior officials and foreign ministers from Pakistan, Indonesia, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan attended the historic signing ceremony at the Sheraton Hotel in Doha.
Earlier in a statement on Friday, US President Donald Trump said that within a few weeks of the signing of the agreement, the way to repatriate about 13,000 of the 5400 troops deployed to Afghanistan would be made. Troops from other countries of the western world will also be gradually reduced based on the level of Taliban violence, he said.
