3 Food Warehouses Are Being Constructed In Chandpur

Three food warehouses are being constructed in Chandpur at a cost of Tk. 10 crore.Three food warehouses are being constructed in three upazilas of Chandpur at a cost of Taka 10 crore and 37 lakh. Three food warehouses are being set up at Haimchar, Matlab North and Kachua in Chandpur under the 1.05 MT capacity new food warehouse construction project across the country.

Acting District Food Controller Nityananda Kundu said this on September 03.

According to the information received, the food warehouses constructed in Chandpur have a capacity of 5,000 MT in Matlab North and 1,000 MT in Kachua. The construction of food warehouse with a capacity of 1,000 MT at Haimchar is underway.

The government’s food department undertook 158 food warehouse construction projects across the country in the 2019-20 fiscal year. Of these, 52 have a capacity of 1,000 MT and 106 have a capacity of 5,000 MT. Haimchar and Kachua in Chandpur have a capacity of 1,000 MT and Matlab North has a capacity of 5,000 MT.

The food warehouse construction project was supposed to be completed in the fiscal year 2019-20, but it was not completed in that fiscal year due to the suspension of work due to the Corona situation. However, the work on the food warehouses in Chandpur will be completed by June 2020-2021, said Nityananda Kundu, acting district food controller.

According to the information received, the construction cost of the 1,000 MT warehouse at Haimchar is Tk. 45 million, the construction cost of the 1,000 MT warehouse at Kachu is Tk. 45 million and the construction cost of the 5,000 MT warehouse at Matlat North is Tk. 1 crore and 37 lakh. It is known that food warehouses are already in operation.

In this regard, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated a multistore warehouse with a capacity of 25,000 tons of food grains on February 26, 2017 at Santahar, Bogra. The Department of Food constructed the state-of-the-art air-conditioned (SILO) at a cost of Tk. 232.71 crore in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
