Najib Razak convicted of corruption.Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has been convicted of corruption. The court has convicted him in the first case of corruption in the country’s state investment fund. The former Malaysian prime minister has been convicted of seven counts of embezzlement of several million dollars.
Kuala Lumpur High Court Judge Mohammad Nazlan Mohammad Ghazali on Tuesday convicted Najib Razak. He said that after analyzing all the evidence in this case, it has been seen that all the allegations brought against him have been proved beyond doubt.
Najib Razak has been convicted on all charges including money laundering and abuse of power. However, he has been denying these allegations against himself from the very beginning.
The allegations against the former Malaysian prime minister are the biggest ever. Najib Razak smuggled at least 550 million. This happened between 2011 and 2014. He was in power then.
The fund was officially formed in 2009 under the name ‘The One Malaysia Development Berhad’. Najib Razak was then the Prime Minister of Malaysia. The then government set up the fund to invest in the development of the national economy. When banks and bondholders failed to repay in 2015, the first question arose about the activities of the fund.
The allegation against Najib is that he illegally removed an estimated 4.5 billion from the fund and pocketed it. It is alleged that Najib Razak used the money for personal purposes.
Under Malaysian law, Najib faces up to 15 to 20 years in prison and a fine for each of the charges against him. However, his lawyers have appealed against the sentence. Najib, on the other hand, says he will appeal against the verdict.
