Dr. Bijan Kumar Shil left the country.Internationally renowned scientist and head of the Corona Kit Innovation Team of the Gonoshasthaya Kendra, Dr. Bijon Kumar Sil.
Bijan Sil left Dhaka on a flight to Singapore on Sunday (September 20) morning, said Jahangir Alam Mintu, a press adviser at Gonoshasthaya Kendra. The Bangladeshi-born scientist has acquired Singaporean citizenship.
Due to visa complications Bijan Kumar Sil has returned to Singapore.
Bijon Sil, who got Singapore citizenship, came to Bangladesh with a work permit. Bijon Kumar Sil was teaching as the Head of the Department of Microbiology at Gono Bishwabidyalay.He invented antigens and antibody kits when corona infection started. However, the government did not approve it.
His work visa expired last July. He then applied for a work visa but has not yet received a reply from the government. As a result, he was forced to leave the country.
Earlier, he came up with the idea of inventing a vaccine against goat plague in 1999, dengue in 2002 and rapid test kit for SARS virus in 2003. At the beginning of the current epidemic of coronavirus, when Gonoshasthaya Kendra announced the discovery of the rapid kit, Dr. Bijon Kumar Sil was in the front row.
