Meghna River Water Above Danger Level: Chandpur City Flooded By Tide

Meghna river water above danger level: Chandpur city flooded by tide.Even though the effect of the full moon has subsided, the Padma-Meghna has blossomed in the south wind. As a result, water is flowing at 55 cm above the danger level in Chandpur. Roads in different parts of Chandpur city have been flooded as the Meghna River continues to rise at high tide. This has put the city protection dam at risk.

The tidal water has been rising since noon on Wednesday, August 05.Early in the afternoon, knee-deep water rose in different areas of Chandpur town including Harisava, Nitaiganj, Royj Road, Lohar Pol, Ghoshpatti, Pal Bazar of Natunbazar, Bangabandhu Road on the banks of Meghna-Dakatiya. The people of some residential areas are suffering due to waterlogging.

However, according to the Water Development Board, despite the fear of floods, the water of the Meghna in the Chandpur city area rises and falls. So the flood waters are not stable here.

Meanwhile, as a result of the increase in the water of Padma-Meghna, the people on the banks of the river including the char areas are in a lot of trouble. Due to the impact of the turbulent Padma-Meghna, Rajrajeshwar of Chandpur Sadar Upazila, Alur Bazar of Ibrahimpur and Ishanbala of Haimchar Upazila have suffered immensely. Already, more than 500 families in the area have been displaced due to demolition.

Babul Akhter, executive engineer of Water Development Board Chandpur, said the effect of the full moon was cut off two days ago and now the south wind is blowing. As a result, the water level in the river has increased. In Chandpur Meghna, water is flowing over 55 cm of danger zone. Inshallah, overall preparations have been made to deal with the breakdown.

He added that the Chandpur city protection Dam had not been repaired for a long time and became vulnerable to heavy water pressure during the monsoon season.

However, sand-filled geo-bags are being dumped in the pilot house area adjacent to Harisava and Molhead of the city protection dam to deal with the erosion.
