Today is the 16th death anniversary of Begum Ivy Rahman, former secretary of women’s affairs of Awami League and wife of late President Zillur Rahman.
On 21 August 2004, a rally organized by the Awami League in front of the central office on Bangabandhu Avenue, a group of assassins launched a barbaric grenade attack and opened fire. Awami League Women’s Affairs Secretary Begum Ivy Rahman was seriously injured in the attack.She fought with death at the Combined Military Hospital and finally breathed his last on 24 August.
On the occasion of Ivy Rahman’s death anniversary, the Awami League will pay homage at his grave at Banani Cemetery on Monday (August 24). Leaders of the party’s central executive parliament, presidents of the Dhaka Metropolitan North and South Awami League, general secretaries and presidents of allied organizations, general secretaries will participate in it in accordance with proper hygiene rules.
