29 dredgers-bulkheads seized in Chandpur, fined Tk 12 lakh

In Chandpur, 29 dredgers and bulkheads were seized during a naval operation on the Meghna River. At that time a fine of Tk 12 lakh 30 thousand was collected and 1 bulkhead employee was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment.

RAB (Cumilla), Coast Guard and Naval Police members took part in the operation with the Navy from morning till evening on Thursday. The operation was led by Badrul Hasan Liton, Director, Bangladesh Shipping Department.

He told, “As part of our regular campaign, we conduct these campaigns at various points on the Meghna River in Chandpur. During this time 17 sand-carrying bulkheads and 12 sand dredgers were seized. These bulkheads and dredgers did not have valid paperwork, had fitness errors, and did not have driving licenses.

Later, a fine of Tk 12 lakh 30 thousand was recovered from the seized illegal dredgers and bulkhead owners in 29 cases through a mobile court. In addition, 1 bulkhead staff was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment.”

The district administration has directed to keep the sand-carrying bulkheads and dredgers in the river closed for 22 days in the area of ​​70 km of Padma and Meghna in Chandpur.
