ECNEC has approved Tk. 5,659 crore for coronavirus vaccine

Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved Tk. 5,659 crore for the coronavirus vaccine purchase, storage and distribution project.

On Tuesday, january 05, the approval was given at a regular meeting of ECNEC held at the NEC auditorium in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar under the chairmanship of ECNEC President Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the virtual meeting from Ganabhaban. The approval of the project, proposed by the Ministry of Health, has removed financial barriers to the collection and implementation of the corona vaccine nationwide.

The Oxford-AstraZeneca corona vaccine is being developed by the Serum Institute of India, the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer. The Bangladesh government has signed an agreement for that vaccine. Beximco Pharmaceuticals will provide the vaccine from the Serum Institute to the Government of Bangladesh.

An agreement has also been reached between the Bangladesh government, Beximco and Serum in this regard.

In the wake of India’s ban on the export of serum vaccines, the Bangladesh government and Beximco said on Monday that Bangladesh would receive timely vaccinations under the agreement. Serum also said that the Indian government has no restrictions on the export of their vaccines.
