Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, Professor Dr. Emajuddin Ahmed is no more (Inna-Rajiun). He breathed his last at 8:30 am on Friday, July 17 at Labaid Hospital in the capital.
Emajuddin Ahmed’s daughter and Dhaka University Professor of Political Science. Dil Raushan Jinnah Ara Nazneen confirmed his death, saying, “She has been in a bad condition for the last two days. We were taken to Labaid Hospital at night due to vomiting. He died there around 8:30 am.
Nazneen further said that after Jumu’ah, Janaza prayers will be held at Kaderia Jame Mosque in Badam adjacent to the residence of the deceased in Kantaban of the capital. After that, Emaj Uddin will be buried next to his wife in Mirpur Shaheed Intellectual Cemetery.
He was 87 years old at the time of his death. His wife had already died. He is survived by two daughters and two sons.
Emajuddin Ahmed has been teaching in the Department of Political Science at Dhaka University for almost two and a half decades. In addition to performing duties in each administrative department, there was the head of the department, the provost of Mohsin Hall, the proctor, the pro-vice-chancellor and finally the vice-chancellor.
Dr. Emajuddin Ahmed was born on 15 December 1932 in the then Maldah district (Chapainawabganj and parts of India). Emajuddin lived with his family for a long time in the ‘Gohal Bari’ area of Chapainawabganj Sadar. He was a student of Adina Government Fazlul Haque College and Rajshahi College in Shibganj.
From 1992 to 1996, he was the Vice-Chancellor for five years. After a six-year hiatus, he joined the University of Development Alternative, a private university, as vice-chancellor in 2002.
