Export-oriented factories to reopen from 1 August

Export-oriented industries and mills have been declared free from the restriction. A notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Friday afternoon said that from August 1, export-oriented industries and mills would remain ‘out of the purview of the prevailing Covid-19 restrictions from Sunday’.

A severe lockdown was imposed across the country from July 23 and the government announced the closure of all industries and mills.

However, the BGMEA, an association of garment industry owners, demanded to the government to open garment factories in the interest of exports. However, a meeting chaired by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan this week rejected the owners’ demand.

However, businessmen met the cabinet secretary again yesterday with the same demand.

The new decision of the government was announced on Friday. The announcement comes at a time when the number of coronavirus infections and deaths in the country is on the rise.
