Fishermen arrested in Chandpur for violating the fishing ban

11 lakh meters of illegal current nets, boats and mother Hilsa including 10 fishermen were seized in Chandpur. In order to protect mother Hilsa, naval police conducted an operation in Padma-Meghna of Chandpur and arrested 10 fishermen including 4 boats with a huge amount of illegal current nets.

The naval police conducted the operation from midnight to morning on Friday, October 8.

According to the Naval Police, in order to increase the production of Hilsa, the government has banned all types of fishing including Hilsa for a total of 22 days from October 4 to October 25 during the main breeding season of Hilsa. They carried out operations in the maritime boundary of the Padma Meghna at Chandpur.

At that time, 10 fishermen were caught with 11 lakh meters of current nets while fishing. Besides, 4 fishing boats and 10 kg of Hilsa were seized. The seized Hilsa was distributed to the orphanage. And the seized nets are burned and destroyed.

Chandpur Naval Police Officer (OC) Mujahidul Islam said the naval police operation at the Padma Meghna naval border in Chandpur has been going on since October 4 to protect mother Hilsa. Various unions of the naval police are on round-the-clock patrol to prevent fishermen from fishing in the river.
