The government will buy paddy and rice from Sunday.Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder said the government would buy 8 lakh MT of paddy and 11 lakh MT of rice from farmers in the current boro season. The program will start on Sunday, April 26 across the country.
The food minister said this in a video conference with Naogaon district administration, health, agriculture, food and police departments on Wednesday,April 22.
“The highest quantity of paddy will be procured this season to ensure a fair price for the paddy produced by the farmers,” the minister told a conference in the deputy commissioner’s conference room. The minister said that farmers should not be harassed anywhere.
He thanked the local health department, administration, police and agriculture department for their relentless work in dealing with disasters like Covid.
Later, PPEs, masks and thermal scanners were distributed among the various departments including Covid testing kits to the health department from the minister’s own funds. Deputy Commissioner Harun-ur-Rashid, Superintendent of Police Abdul Mannan Mia, Civil Surgeon and Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension were present on the occasion.
