Illegal current net worth Tk. 5 crores seized in Chandpur. BCG station Chandpur under Bangladesh Coast Guard Dhaka Zone has seized illegal current nets worth around Tk. 5 crores 25 lakh by conducting special operations in different areas of the Padma-Meghna river.

This information was given by Lt. Commander Amirul Haque, Media Officer of Bangladesh Coast Headquarters on Saturday noon.

He said special operations were conducted in different areas of the Padma-Meghna river in Chandpur under the leadership of Sub-Lieutenant Ruhan Manjur to protect the Hilsa resources.

At that time the fishermen were preparing to catch fish with illegal current nets.

Subsequently, 1.5 million meters of illegal current nets were seized while being floated in a floating river. The estimated market value of the seized nets is only around Tk. 5 crores 25 lakh.

Assistant Fisheries Officer Chandpur Sadar Upazila Md. Mahbub Rashid was present in the operation. Later, the seized nets were destroyed, he said.

He further said that regular operations have been and will continue to be carried out in the areas under the jurisdiction of the Bangladesh Coast Guard to maintain law and order, ensure public safety as well as curb piracy, curb robbery, and drug trafficking as well as illegal fishing.
