According to the locals, for the last few days, a vast area of the remote char Rajrajeshwar in Chandpur has been disappearing into the terrible clutches of the frenzy Padma. The Chandpur section of the Padma River has taken the form of fury as the intense water pressure of the upper reaches descends into the South Sea.
As a result, several other chars including Manderbazar, Dhalikandi, Rajarchar, Majidkandi, Lagnimara chars of Rajrajeshwar union on the river bank were severely damaged.
Rajrajeshwar Union Parishad Chairman Hazrat Ali Bepari said that every year there is erosion in the char. But this time the breakdown has taken a terrible turn.
Meanwhile, the victims of the demolition have lost their homes and other facilities and are in a state of uncertainty.
Therefore, the people’s representative has appealed to the rich people including the administration to stand by the people who have lost their resources.
On the other hand, fishermen Rahman Mia, Kajal Gazi and Khaleq Bakaul of Majidkandi area, who lost their resources, said, “Our all are gone in the river. Now we will take shelter in the house of a relative with my family members.”
In this regard, Chandpur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kaniz Fatema said, Every year more or less breaks in the char area. But this time hundreds of families have lost their land. We will discuss with senior government officials to see if anything can be done for the victims.
However, in the future, floating or tinsed buildings will be constructed in the char areas instead of multi-storey buildings, she added.
