A terrible fire in Kaliakair market of Gazipur

A terrible fire broke out in Kaliakair market of Gazipur. The fire broke out on Monday evening. At that time more than 50 shops were burnt along with various goods. Later, six units of the Fire Service and Civil Defense were able to put out the blaze in an hour and a half.

Kabirul Alam, station officer of Kaliakair Fire Service, said the fire started from a hardware store on Kaliakair Bazar Road. The fire spread to various markets and shops on Fulbaria Road and Kasim Uddin Road, including Bazar Road.

At this time the locals tried to put out the fire but failed. After receiving the news, six units of the fire service went to Kaliakair, Savar EPZ and Mirzapur (Tangail) stations and started extinguishing the fire.

Meanwhile, most of the shops are built of wood on the water and the fire service personnel have to get up to speed to put out the fire due to the crowd of curious people. Fire service personnel managed to bring the fire under control after trying for about an hour and a half. However, they have to do damping work till 8 pm to put out the fire completely.

Kabirul Alam further said that more than 50 shops and goods including hardware, stationery, groceries, medicines, clothes, tailors and upholstery shops on three roads in Kaliakair market area were burnt in the fire. However, the extent of the damage was not immediately known.
