Aman production target in Chandpur is 68,000 MT. Chandpur is one of the major riverine agricultural areas of the country. The rivers Meghna, Padma, Meghna, Dhanagoda and Dakatia flow through the district and produce a large crop in the river basin for agricultural production. Sowed aman is also cultivated and produced in the areas adjacent to the river banks. Aman’s place in Chandpur is after Eri-Boro and Aush.
According to sources in the Department of Agricultural Extension, Farm House, Chandpur, the production target for Chandpur (2021-2022) has been set at 68,274 MT of aman rice and the target for cultivation is 27,105 hectares. Especially in the char areas of Chandpur, the farmers cultivate and produce widely sown aman. But as it is on the banks of the river, the farmers of the char areas are not getting agricultural loans.
According to the information received, the cultivation target of local variety Bona Aman in Chandpur Sadar is 2,470 hectares, meaning cultivation in the north is 7,150 hectares, cultivation in the south is 45 hectares, cultivation in Hajiganj is 5 hectares, cultivation in Shahrasti is 2,050 hectares, cultivation in Haimchar. 2,400 hectares, 5,585 hectares in Kachua and 7,400 hectares in Faridganj.
Farmers usually cultivate potato, mustard, maize, chilli and other rabi crops at home.
Due to favorable climate, transportation facilities, interest of farmers in mustard cultivation, provision of production technology by the Department of Agriculture, improved communication system, availability of agricultural inputs, advice of agriculturists on seeds, fertilizers and pesticides, provision of agricultural loans from banks, etc.
It is cultivated mostly in the Meghna Dhanagoda and Chandpur irrigation projects in Chandpur, an agronomist from the Agriculture Extension Department’s farm house in Chandpur said on Sunday.
