Chandpur naval police arrested 19 fishermen

Chandpur naval police arrested 19 fishermen. In order to protect mother Hilsa, naval police conducted an operation in Padma-Meghna of Chandpur and arrested 19 fishermen including a huge amount of illegal current nets and 3 fishing boats.

The naval police conducted the operation on the Meghna River in Rajrajeshwar Union of Sadar Upazila from midnight to morning on Sunday.

The information was confirmed by the naval police station on Monday morning.

The detainees are Md.Nabin of Barguna district, Md. Kamal of Noakhali district, Md. Siraj and Md. Kalu of Bhola district, Md. Hamid Mollah, Akhter Dhali, Md. Nazmul Hossain, Shahjalal, Md. Aman Ullah Dewan, Md. Rakib Dhali, Al Amin, Md. Khorshed Alam, Abdul Aziz, Enayet Ullah and Md. Syed Mollah of Rajrajeswar Union of Sadar Upazila, Md. Aman Ullah, Md.Shakil Mia and Helal Khan of Haimchar Upazila, Md. Khorshed Alam of Shariatpur district.

According to the naval police, the government has banned all types of fish including Hilsa for 22 days from October 4 to October 25 during the main breeding season of Hilsa to increase the production of Hilsa. They carried out operations in the maritime boundary of the Padma Meghna at Chandpur.

At that time, 19 fishermen were caught with 32 lakh meters of current nets while fishing. Besides, 3 fishing boats and 20 kg Hilsa were seized. The seized Hilsa was distributed to the orphanage. The seized nets were destroyed by fire.

Chandpur Naval Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Mujahidul Islam said, “The naval police operation at the Padma Meghna watershed in Chandpur has been going on since October 4 to protect mother Hilsa. Various naval police units are on full-time patrol to prevent fishermen from fishing in the river. Preparations are underway to file regular cases against the detainees.”
