A condemnation has been accepted by the UN General Assembly against Myanmar over allegations of torture the Rohingya and other minorities. Friday’s vote in favor of the proposal was 134 votes in New York local time. On the other hand, there were 9 votes against.
Myanmar was accused of molesting Rohingya and other minorities in the proposal, arbitrary arrests, rape, torture and death in custody.
The UN also called for the Myanmar government to take urgent action to incite hatred against Rohingya and other minorities in Rakhine, Kachin and Shan states.
Although this condemnation proposal approved in the General Assembly does not create any legal obligation for Myanmar, it reflects the world’s opinion on the country.
“The proposal is an excellent example of human rights policy being targeted by discriminating against one party in order to exert unwanted political pressure against Myanmar,” said Hou Du Suan, Myanmar’s ambassador to the United Nations.
He said, ‘There would be no solution to the complex situation in Rakhine state’.
Meanwhile, Japan has expressed support for Myanmar over the Rohingya issue despite global pressure. The Japanese ambassador to Myanmar met on Friday, December 27 with Aung sansuu kyi.
The Ambassador of Japan also hoped that Gambia’s case would be dismissed in the International Court of Justice at this time. This is the first country that publicly supported Myanmar in the Rohingya issue.
On August 2017, when the Rohingya people were arrested, persecuted, raped and killed then the United Nations passed 3 resolutions against Myanmar.
