A son has been accused of hacking his mother to death in Faridganj Upazila of Chandpur. The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday in the Paschim Barali area of the Upazila.
The deceased was identified as Monowara Begum, 65. She is the wife of Abdul Hashem of the area. On the other hand, the killer’s name is Momin Dewan (42). He is mentally handicapped.
Police and locals said Momin, who is mentally handicapped, had been in jail for a long time.
Three months ago, he got out of jail and beat his mother and niece with death threats. On Tuesday morning, he stabbed his mother and ran away from home.
Locals spotted him in Bhatergaon village in the municipal area and informed the police. Police later arrested him.
Faridganj Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shahid Hossain said the body was recovered and sent to the hospital. Legal action is being taken against him.
