In Chandpur Infection Is On Rise: Red Zone Decision Today!

Infection is on the rise in Chandpur: Red Zone decision today!Chandpur district town, which has become a corona hotspot or red zone, has demanded a complete lockdown. Citizens have been raising their demands for several days through various means including administrative officials, media workers and social media. Many want a curfew in the city or a strict lockdown.

A tough decision may come in this regard at the virtual adjourned meeting of the Chandpur District Corona Prevention Committee on Sunday, June 14. A meeting of the committee held on Saturday discussed the implementation of the red zone, meeting sources said.

However, the district administration sources have hinted that there is no possibility of imposing curfew at the moment. Sources further said that the decision to implement a strict lockdown or red zone may come today.

The total number of people infected with corona in Chandpur district since Saturday (June 13) has risen to 413. Of these, 32 people died. At the upazila level, most corona patients are in Chandpur Sadar upazila. Of the total 157 people identified in Chandpur Sadar Upazila, 143 are from Chandpur town. The number of victims at the union level is 14.

It is clear from these statistics that more than one-third of the coronavirus patients in the district so far are from Chandpur. This means that Chandpur city is at the highest risk of corona in the entire district.

Although the Ministry of Health has already included all the upazilas of Chandpur district under the red zone, the citizens are demanding that the red zone be implemented first in Chandpur city.

According to the Civil Surgeon’s Office, the district-wise statistics of 413 people affected by corona in Chandpur district are as follows: 157 in Chandpur Sadar, 49 in Faridganj, 49 in Hajiganj, 48 in Shahrasti, 38 in Matlab South, 25 in Kachua and 19 in Haimchar.

Besides, the upazila-wise statistics of 32 deaths in the district are: 10 in Chandpur Sadar, 7 in Hajiganj, 4 in Kachua, 4 in Faridganj, 4 in Shahrasti, 2 in Matlab North and 1 in Matlab South.

Talking to Chandpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Majedur Rahman Khan over his mobile phone on Saturday night about the demands of the citizens, he said that the prevention of corona infection was discussed at the meeting of the District Corona Prevention Committee held on Saturday.

However, some decisions may be made on Sunday. In this case, the opinion of the civil surgeon will be the most important.

Civil Surgeon Sakhawat Ullah said over his mobile phone on Saturday night, ‘We are discussing and checking the data on ways to prevent corona infection. Hopefully, a decision can be made at Sunday’s meeting.’
