More Than 250 People Lost Their Lives In Floods

More than two and a half hundred people lost their lives in the floods.Ongoing floods in 33 districts of the country have claimed the lives of 251 people. From June 30 to August 27, they died of diarrhea, drowning, snake bites, lightning and other illnesses in different districts. Of these, 210 people drowned. Besides, 13 people died due to lightning, 25 people died due to snake bites, 1 died due to diarrhea and two others died due to other diseases.

From August 26 to August 27, three people drowned (one in Rajbari and two in Lalmonirhat) and one died (snake bite) in Manikganj. Besides, four more people have died from August 26 to today (August 28). Three of them died in Manikganj and one in Kishoreganj. Sources in the Health Emergency Operations Center and Control Room of the Health Department said this on Friday.

Of the total 251 people killed in the floods, 19 were in Lalmonirhat, 24 in Kurigram, 16 in Gaibandha, 2 in Nilphamari, 3 in Rangpur, 8 in Sunamganj, 15 in Sirajganj, two in Bogra, 32 in Jamalpur, 41 in Tangail,6 in Rajbari, 26 Manikganj, 2 in Faridpur, 7 in Netrokona, 2 in Naogaon, 11 in Kishoreganj, 9 in Dhaka, 8 in Shariatpur, 10 in Munshiganj, 6 in Gazipur and 2 in Gopalganj.

At present, 1,016 out of 2,593 unions in 269 upazilas of 33 districts of the country are affected by floods. 2,785 medical teams of the health department are providing medical services in the flood-hit districts.

So far, 23,170 people have been affected by diarrhea, 8,133 by RTI, 47 by lightning, 80 by snake bites, 239 by drowning, 16,199 by skin diseases, 1,636 by eye infections and 1,238 by injuries in the affected districts. A total of 57,301 people have been affected by various diseases, including 236 and 20,939 other diseases.
