There will be sculptures of Bangabandhu in Ankara

Turkey will place a sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Ankara on his birth centenary. A sculpture ofMustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the modern Turkish Republic, will be erected in Dhaka.

The information was given by Turkish Ambassador to Dhaka Mustafa Osman Turan after a courtesy call on Information Minister Hasan Mahmud of the Secretariat on Wednesday.

After the meeting, Information Minister Hassan Mahmoud said that Turkey had decided to place a sculpture of Bangabandhu in Ankara. At the same time, another sculpture of Kamal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey, will be installed in Dhaka.

We also discussed whether the same could be done in Istanbul, the commercial capital of Turkey, and Chattogram, the commercial city of Bangladesh.

“We have discussed a number of bilateral issues,” said Ambassador Turan. We hope that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will attend the closing ceremony of Mujib’s year.

Referring to Bangabandhu as the ‘symbol’ of Bangladesh and Kamal Ataturk as the ‘symbol’ of Turkey, Osman Turan said, “We have decided to place sculptures of these two leaders in the two countries.” Soon sculptures of Bangabandhu in Ankara and Kamal Ataturk on Kamal Ataturk Avenue in Dhaka will be erected. The ambassador also said that discussions have been held with the information minister on whether such a thing can be done in Istanbul and Chittagong.

Talking about how cultural exchanges can take place on the occasion of Mujib Year, the Information Minister said that he had also talked to the Ambassador about airing some programs on the occasion of Mujib Year on Turkey’s TRT national channel.
