Without Decision Of BGMEA Has Opened 450 Factories In Gazipur

Without decision of BGMEA has opened 450 factories in Gazipur .About 400 garment factories in Gazipur on Sunday opened through lockdown without a BGMEA decision. Except for a few, most factories ignored government directives.

Workers have been seen entering and leaving the factory by pushing without maintaining social distance. There were masks but no gloves. Talking to the workers, it is learned that they have worked inside the factory as before. There were no security measures. As a result, the coronavirus has spread more widely and many people think that Gazipur is going to be at higher risk.

On condition of anonymity, several operators of MM Knitwear in Konabari industrial area of Gazipur City Corporation said that they have been asked to join the work by texting. Otherwise layoffs have been threatened. If they are cut, they will have to die without eating with their family. And if you work, there is a risk of dying from corona. That means risk even if you work, risk even if you don’t. So they were forced to join the work.

The operators also said that they have made their own masks for safety. Only hand spraying from the factory at the time of entering the factory. Besides, there are no other security measures.

Most of the factories launched yesterday were in violation of health safety and social distance guidelines.

Gazipur Industrial Police Additional Superintendent of Police Sushant Sarkar said about 450 garment factories had been set up till noon on Sunday. Each factory authority has been requested to maintain social distance between the workers and employees and to operate the factory in compliance with health safety guidelines. The district administration will see whether the instructions are being implemented or not.

Gazipur Civil Surgeon Dr. Khairuzzaman asked whether the risk increased due to the launch of a garment factory in the lockdown. He urged the factory owners to run the factory through the safety of the workers during these periods.

Gazipur Deputy Commissioner SM Tariqul Islam said the lockdown in Gazipur was not lifted. However, the owners have been asked to start the factory by following the government instructions.
