Illegal current net Tk 7 crore seized in Chandpur

The Coast Guard Chandpur has seized 20 lakh 50 thousand meters of illegal current nets by conducting a raid in Puranbazar of Chandpur city. The estimated value is 7 crore 18 lakh rupees.

A huge quantity of illegal current nets were recovered from 2 godowns and 3 shops in jugipatti and Balaka lanes on Saturday, July 11 from 10 am to 12 noon.

The operation was led by Mobile Court Executive Magistrate Aliduzzaman and Coast Guard Chandpur Station Commander Lieutenant ASM Lutfar Rahman (X) BN.

At that time, the mobile court fined Uttam Barman and Prabir Naha, two yarn and counterfeit traders, Tk 5,000 and two others, respectively, a total of Tk 10,000.

Executive Magistrate Aliduzzaman said, “Current nets are banned throughout the year. We have jointly conducted this campaign to stop the use of illegal nets under the country’s fisheries protection law. The seized nets will be destroyed.’
