Globally, the demand for meatless food has increased by 1,000 times by 2017 years. Vegan or vegetarian diets contain no animal meat, fish, dairy products or eggs.

A survey by the Vegan Society in the United States found that over 6,00,000 people now follow vegan or vegetarian diets. But in 2006, the number was just one and 1,50,000. And among them more women than men. At the same time, the demand for vegetable food in Iceland is increasing at a rate of 10% per year.

Supermarket chains in the UK now carry more goods for vegetarians than ever before. In 2018, SuperShop Waitrose opened a separate vegan branch in five of its stores. Along with that, fast food companies like KFC, McDonald’s and Greggs have been forced to launch vegan food around the world.

According to market research firm Mintel, more than 75 crore pounds of meatless meat is sold in the UK market annually. That was less than 55 crore pounds three years ago. Research institutes say there is no sign of this reduction in demand until 2021.

People’s eating habits are changing mainly due to health considerations and environmental awareness. According to a survey in the UK, about 49% of people have opted not to eat meat on the diet, regardless of their health.
